- 1. Genome size (GS) variation. C-value paradox. C-value enigma: genome obesity and downsizing. Evolution of GS variation, GS variation in the phylogenetic context. 2. Chromatin and chromosome structure. Heterochromatin. Epigenetic modifications of heterochromatin. 3. B chromosomes. 4. Gametocidal chromosomes. 5. Segmental duplications, whole-genome duplications. (Paleo)polyploidy. Diploidization. Polyploidy and speciation. 6. Meiosis, chromosome pairing and segregation. Chromosomal structural mutations (translocations, inversions etc.). 7. Evolution of centromeres. Centromeric repeats, epigenetic regulation of chromosome segregation. 8. Karyotype evolution. Mechanisms of karyotypic changes. Evolutionary trends in chromosome number variation. 9. The role of chromosome rearrangements in speciation. Recombinational speciation model. 10. Genetic and physical mapping in plants. Genome and chromosome synteny and colinearity. 11. Comparative and evolutionary cytogenetics in the post-genomic era. Plant cytotaxonomy and phylogenomics.
