- Předmět je zaměřen na podrobné seznámení se současnou klasifikací meteoritů a aktuálním stavem výzkumu meteoritů a možnostmi jejich výzkumu. Studenti se rovněž podrobně seznámí se vznikem impaktních struktur a jejich detailním popisem.

- Co je meteorit, klasifikace meteoritů a jejich charakteristika (minerální složení a stavby), nálezy meteoritů (slavné pády a nálezy, roje), historie objevování meteoritů, původ meteoritů (mj. planetární a měsíční meteority), impaktní struktury na Zemi i ve Sluneční soustavě, jejich vznik, typy struktur, projevy spojené se vznikem těchto struktur (impaktní produkty), přehled významných impaktních eventů v historii Země (vliv na ekosystémy), možná rizika impaktních událostí v budoucnosti a mezinárodní ochranné projekty.
