- Course objectives
- The objective of the lectures is to transfer a knowledge to the students, how to use the sustainable resources in chemical synthesis, and to teach them, how to plan synthetic strategy with application of sustainable raw material resources to the large extent.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the lectures, sustainable energy resources, definition of fats and saccharides, theory of the sweet taste 2. Natural sweeteners (sucrose, glucose, fructose, alditols) and natural intense sweeteners; an overview of the most important synthetic sweeteners 3. Chemical transformations of sucrose 4. Biochemical transformations of sucrose 5. Application of glucose 6. Application of fructose 7. Cellulose: Production and application 8. The industry of cellulose ethers and esters 9. Starch, its modifications and application 10. Chitin, pectins, hemicelluloses 11. Plant gums and mucilages 12. Glycogen and other minor polysaccharides; Lignin: production and application 13. Fatty acids and their natural derivatives: synthetic applications (part 1) 14. Fatty acids and their natural derivatives: synthetic applications (part 2)
