Course objectives
The students will learn various aspects of research and development focused on construction of proteins by rational design and directed evolution in this seminar. Theoretical and experimental problems of protein engineering are being discussed, including transfer of the results from research to practice. Microbial enzymes haloalkane dehalogenases serve as the model system for practising of various protein engineering strategies. The students refer once a week about the results of their own research projects as well as the results published in scientific literature within so called "Journal Clubs". They are supervised to critically access content and formal aspects of presentations. The students are being informed about hot news in the field presented at scientific conferences and refer about the meetings they have attended during the year. The students get first experience with chairing scientific discussions and learn how to prepare minutes from the meeting.
