- Course objectives
- At the end of the course the students are able to:
set up experimental design suitable for specified purpose
select appropriate statistical treatment for the data and experimental design
generalize and present the results of statistical tests using an adequate form. - Syllabus
- Data collecting. Organization of data within spreadsheets. PC-based statistical packages. Data import from spreadsheets. Variable types, statistical distributions, quantiles, null hypothesis, I. and II. error type. Experimental design, selecting of appropriate statistical method. X2 test. F-test, t-test. One-way analysis of variance, homogeneity of variances, independence of residuals, data transformations, contrasts, a priori and post-hoc tests. Multiple analysis of variance: factorial, nested, and block designs, repeated measures ANOVA; interaction, fixed effect and random effect models, mixed model. Covariance analysis. Correlation analysis, Pearson, Spearman and partial correlation coefficient. Regression analysis, linear and non-linear regression, multiple regression.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures - theoretical preparation.
- Assessment methods
- The exam is based on the practical statistical treatment of three sets of experimental data, covering the methods presented at the course. Selection and justification of an appropriate method is an integral part of the exam. For all calculations the package Statistica can be used.
