Course objectives
Main objectives are to give basic knowledge of
- petrology of karst rocks
- karst hydrogeology
- geochemistry of karst processes
- morphology of karst terrains
The course is aimed to the students of bachelor programs.
Syllabus
  • Petrology of karst rocks: karst rock environment, karst types, carbonate karst.
  • Karst hydrogeology: karst rock porosity, karst water zonality, epikarst - vadose zone – phreatic zone interrelation of underground and surface waters, management of underground waters in karst.
  • Karst processes: rock dissolution and mineral precipitation in karst, cave formation, speleothem formation.
  • Surface karst: karst landscape, positive topography, negative topography, dissolution features.
  • Underground karst: caves, cave systems, speleothems.
  • Cave infillings: types, genesis, provenance.
