- Course objectives
- Main objective of the course is to give a basic knowledge in petrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry and morphology of karst terrains. The course is aimed to the students of bachelor programs.
- Syllabus
- Petrology of karst rocks:
- karst rock environment, karst types, carbonate karst.
- Karst hydrogeology:
- karst rock porosity, karst water zonality, epikarst - vadose zone – phreatic zone interrelation of underground and surface waters, management of underground waters in karst.
- Karst processes:
- rock dissolution and mineral precipitation in karst, cave formation, speleothem formation.
- Surface karst:
- karst landscape, positive topography, negative topography, dissolution features.
- Underground karst:
- caves, cave systems, speleothems.
- Cave infillings:
- types, genesis, provenance.
