Course objectives
At the end of the course the students are able to: Understand and explain developmental processes; Identify structures formed during embryogenesis; Interpret and explain recent knowledge and problems in regenerative and reproductive medicine; Formulate and discuss hypothesis about ontogenesis and evolution.
Syllabus
  • Embryology, lectures 2 hour weekly, exam. Regenerative abilities in animals. Reproduction: cell reproduction, the basic of the growth and development of organisms. Asexual reproduction of Unicellulata and Animalia. Sexual reproduction and differences, gametogenesis, fecondation and fertilisation. Alternating reproductive cycles. Ontogenesis - embryonic, postembryonic direct and indirect development. Organogenesis of the most important organ systems. Growth of organisms, equal and unequal growth, tumours.

Assessment methods
Attendance of the lectures is not mandatory but strongly recommended for fluent understanding of the educated subjects. Final assessment (at the end of semester) is by written examination. The exam consists of approximately 20 multiple choice questions (there is always one answer correct). Exam is successfully passed by getting 60 % or right answers.
