Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the issues of aDNA studies. Students should be able to explain the methods used in aDNA studies and its application in anthropology and archaeology.
Syllabus
  • Content of course: general terms, history of aDNA studies
  • sources of human aDNA, issues of aDNA studies
  • sources of contamination, authenticity of results
  • mitochondrial aDNA
  • preparation of samples, decontamination, decalcification
  • extraction of aDNA, PCR
  • electrophoresis, sequencing
  • sex determination
  • identification, kinship analysis
  • evolution studies, disease diagnosis, blood groups.
