- Course objectives
- The course is an introduction to basic approaches to the spatial analysis of population distribution, its composition and development. Seminars focused on acquiring practical analytical methods are an integral part of the course.
- Learning outcomes
- The graduate of the course focuses on population issues from a geographic / complex point of view, namely development and number, structure, movement and basic population processes at different hierarchical levels.
- Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Introduction. History of the discipline.
- 2. Data sources, availibility of data (history of population censuses and registration).
- 3. Antropogenesis. Distribution of population on Earth. Racial differentiation.
- 4. Development of world population (history, future).
- 5. Distribution of population with respect to natural and social environment.
- 6. Methods of analysis of population distribution.
- 7. Introduction to demography: demographic data a indicators, time in demographic analysis.
- 8. Age and sex structure of population.
- 9. Structure of population based on economic signs.
- 10. Structure of population based on cultural signs.
- 11. Introduction to natural reproduction of population - natality, mortality, population increase / decrease.

- 1. Essay: reasons / factors of small population increase in Europe before the middle of the 18. century.
- 2. Data sources: analysis of long-term population development.
- 3. Population distribution according to the altitude.
- 4. Maximally populated areas and their development.
- 5. Sex composition of the population according to the age.
- 6. Age-sex composition of the population.
- 7. Basic measures of natality, fertility and reproduction.
