Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Introduction to the principle of ionization source ICP, with the types of mass analyzers and with the introduction of solid sample and sample solution into the discharge. Obtaining information about the analytical properties of the method and its use. Introduction to a specific device and its control.
Learning outcomes
The student will gain information about the principle of the method and operation of instrumentation and will be prepared to measure samples.

  • MS – general basics, ICP as ionization source ICP-MS in general, types of analyzers Sample introduction into ICP Calibration, internal standard, signal evaluation Spectral and non-spectral interferences Laser ablation Laser – sample interaction Application of laser ablation Geological samples, examples of analyses Practical acquaintance with the device Method setting, tuning
Teaching methods
Lecture with presentation and instructions how to operate instrument.
Assessment methods
Theoretical knowledge test and discussion at the ICP instrument.
