- Course objectives
- The course is a continuation of C5910 Chromatographic Methods I. Principles, techniques, instrumentation and contemporary trends in the field of capillary electrophoresis (HPCE), capillary electrochromatography (CEC), and gas chromatography (HRGC) are discussed in details.
- Syllabus
- I. Capillary electrophoresis and electrochromatography. II.1 Ion progression in electrical field, fundamental equations, terms, and parameters. II.2 Principles of CE techniques and those of capilllary electrochromatography, applications. II.3 Instrumentation. Quantitation. II. Gas chromatography. II.1 Retention characteristics, Gas flow in porous media, van Deemter equation and Golay equation. Retention indexes. II.2 Gas-Liquid Chromatography. Columns, liquid phases and their characterization, supports. II.3 Adsorption gas chromatography. Features, comparison with GLC. Adsorbents, applications. II.4 Capillary columns, packed, WCOT, PLOT, SCOT. Quality evaluation. II.5 Mobile phase, comparison of gases. II.6 Instrumentation, sample injection, detection. GC/MS, GC/AED, and GC/FTIR hyphenation. Multidimensional GC. Parameter programming.
