- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to give a basic knowledge in petrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry and morphology of karst terrains. The course is aimed to the students of bachelor programs.
- Syllabus
- Petrology of karst rocks: karst rock environment, karst types, carbonate karst. Basis of karst hydrogeology: karst rock porosity, karst water zonality, interrelation of underground and surface waters, management of underground waters in karst. Introduction to karst processes: rock dissolution and mineral precipitation in karst, cave formation, speleothem formation. Surface karst: karst landscape, positive topography, negative topography, dissolution features. Underground karst: caves, cave systems, speleothems. Cave infillings: types, genesis, provenance.
