- At the end of this course students should be able to:
1. understand and be able to explain basic principles of relationships between evolution and development in higher plants;
2. find new evo-devo questions;
3. formulate reasoned hypotheses of the relationships between evolution and development in examples chosen by students themselves. - Syllabus
- 1. Basics of the construction pf phylogenetic trees
- 2. Practical use phylogenetic trees
- 3. Major transitions in the evolution of plant development
- 4. Evolution and development of ovules
- 5. Double fertilisation, endosperm formation and embryogenesis
- 6. Formation of gynoecium, fruits and seeds
- 7. Vegetative and floral apical meristem
- 8. Formation of leaves
- 9. Formation of flowers
- 10. Homeotic floral genes
- 11. Evolutionary innovations in flower formation
