- Course objectives
- The course is devoted to the students of Masters program. The main objectives of the course are:
learn basic principles of numerical groundwater flow modeling;
analyze and solve real problems of groundwater supply, contamination, impact of mining and building constructions to groundwater levels.
Practical examples include:
run basic groundwater flow model with simple boundary conditions;
run model with real boundary and initial conditions (river, stream, recharge, drain packages);
perform models with both steady state and transient flow simulations;
design of groundwater supply system, including setting the positions of pumping wells and determining the pumping rate;
assess the impact of open pit to grounwater levels;
assess the impact of building construction to groundwater levels and flow velocities;
design pump and treat system in aquifer with contaminant plume;
design non-permeable barries and permeable reactive barrier in aquifer with contaminant plume; - Syllabus
- Health risk assessment
- Basic principles of numerical computer modeling for solving of groundwater flow problems
- Compiling of basic computer model with simple boundary conditions
- Boundary conditions and other impacts to groundwater flow and their determination
- Compiling of groundwater flow models for selected sites and problems
