- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, students should be able to: - understand the analysis of samples of water, silicate materials, metals, alloys, soils and biological materials - connect theoretical knowledge and acquired practical experiences - experiment and develop procedures - combine various practical methods - evaluate practical capacities for decomposition of samples
- Syllabus
- 1. Water analysis. Determination of pH, CHSKMn, ZNK, KNK.
- 2. Determination of chlorides, sulphates and phosphates.
- 3. a) Determination of nitrites, calcium and magnesium. b) Determination of ammonia or fluorides.
- 4. a) Determination of arsenic by HGAAS. b) Determination of mercury by CVAAS.
- 5. Analysis of metals and alloys. Analysis of steels - determination of chromium and manganese.
- 6. Analysis of aluminium alloys - determination of copper or iron.
- 7. Analysis of silicate materials. Decomposition of samples, determination of SiO2.
- 8. Determination of aluminium, calcium and magnesium.
- 9. Determination of iron and titanium.
- 10. Analysis of soils - determination of phosphorus.
- 11. a) Analysis of biological materials. Low temperature dry ashing - determination of calcium. b) High temperature dry ashing - determination of chromium.
- 12. a) Wet ashing at normal pressure - determination of zinc in hair. b) High pressure digestion - determination of calcium in milk.

- Teaching methods
- Education is performed as laboratory course. Learning new skills by practical analysis of water, silicate materials, metals, alloys, soils and biological materials is emphasized.
- Assessment methods
- Final assessment (at the end of semester) is by graded credit. It is on the base of performance of exercises, results, protocol processing and written test of theoretical knowledge.
