Course objectives
The course continues in the basic training in immunology and develops knowledge in recognition of pathology statuses of immune system. Special attention is paid to processes involved in mechanisms of initiation of the pathology, diagnostics, symptoms and therapeutic opportunities.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
understand end explain physiological mechanisms involved in immune system;
differentiate the primary and secondary immunodeficiency;
define interactions of selected infection factors with immune system;
characterize immunological mechanisms of selected tissues and organ systems, hypersensitivity, transplantation immunology, reproductive immunology, and autoimmune diseases.
Syllabus
  • 1. Structure and physiological mechanism involved in immune system: an overview. 2. Immunity impairments: medicinal aspects, ethical and social issues. Types of diagnostics/therapeutic approaches. 3. Primary immunodeficiency: role of mutations, typology of primary deficits, incidence, pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnostics and therapy 4. Secondary immunodeficiency: causal association, mechanisms of initiation, symptoms, therapeutic opportunities. 5. Interactions of selected infection factors with immune system: (TBC, Borrelia) 6. Immunological mechanisms of selected tissues and organ systems 7. Hypersensitivity 8. Transplantation immunology 9. Reproductive immunology 10. Autoimmune diseases
