Course objectives
The course intends to supply the basic information necessary to apply the methods of vibrational spectroscopy in research of biologicaly imortant molecules, to design experimental procedures, to perform and evaluate the experiments. The main goal of this course is focused on vibrational spectroscopy of biopolymers, biomembranes and its artifficial models.
Syllabus
  • History of vibrational spectroscopy (Infrared and Raman spectroscopy) Molecular vibrations, vibrational spektra, evaluation procedures. Tools for vibrational spectroscopy ( radiation sources, spectrometers and detectors). Classical RS and IR spectroscopy. Special techniques: Resonance Raman Spectroscopy (RRS), Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD), Raman Optical Activity (ROA), Near-Infrared Spestroscopy. The application of VS: nucleic acid, proteins, lipids, membrenes, cells. Kinetic studies.
