Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand scientific basis and rationale for clinical practice in the Czech Republic. They should be able to explain principles of the diagnostic and therapies of common cancer entities, which would be helpful for the best cooperation between researchers and clinicians.
Learning outcomes
After this course, students will be able to: - formulate key aspects of clinical oncology;
- describe the organization of cancer care in the Czech Republic;
- define modern diagnostic tools in oncology;
- understand state-of-the-art therapies of the most prevalent cancer entities.
Syllabus
  • Epidemiology: cancer statistics, clinical cancer registry prevention, Czech cancer screening programs
  • Diagnostics: classification of neoplasm, modern diagnostic tools, diagnostic in the clinic
  • Principles of therapy: goals (curative, palliative, adjuvant, neoadjuvant), surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, individualized therapy
  • Clinical trials: Types, design, performance and evaluation of clinical studies
  • State-of-the-art therapies of cancer entities: breast cancer, prostate and urogenital carcinoma, gastrointestinal carcinoma, neurooncology, oncogynecology, lymphoma, leukemia, pediatric oncology

Lectures, discussions on detailed subjects.
Assessment methods
Written exam. To understand principles of topics and their relevance.
