Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with different methods of teaching at secondary school, carried out by different teachers. The seminar includes, on the one hand, an introductory speech by a secondary school teacher (profile of the school, the student, subsidies for science subjects, forms of teaching), but above all it is a cycle of hearings at secondary schools, which is accompanied by analyzes of individual lessons with the active participation of students.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to give an overview of teaching methods in the secondary-school teaching. They are basically aware of problems in secondary school education. Can create a short didactic test or other teaching material.
Syllabus
  • The subject consists of two parts. The first part (afternoon, evening or morning) is used for a secondary school teacher's lecture about his school and then answering questions from students in general about the profile of the school, the student or the content and form of science teaching at the given school. (More general topics may also be discussed within the discussions, such as 1. Thematic plans of the teacher. 2. Work safety during physics teaching in the classroom and in the laboratory. 3. School legislation and the teacher. 4. Records and assessment of students' knowledge. and more.) The second part (reserved in the morning, used for one to two hours plus time for discussion and transportation) is used for listening in teaching hours at the introduced secondary school. The listening will be followed by an analysis of the lesson between the students, possibly also with the teacher, in which the following will be discussed in particular: motivation and activity of secondary school students, used teaching methods and forms of knowledge verification, inclusion of experiments in teaching, problem solving. Part of the teaching will also be active performances by students - trying out the teaching method chosen by them, which interested them, or which, on the contrary, they completely missed in the listening sessions. The ratio of both parts - seven lectures and seven listening sessions plus a twenty-minute performance by each student in the seminar. Non-participation in classes can be partly replaced by another activity - more details in the first lesson of the semester.
Literature
  • secondary school textbooks of physics
  • selection from school legislative
Teaching methods
observing physics lessons; discussion of lessons with active participation; homework for the student's performance at the seminar - related to this is the creation of didactic tests or other teaching materials;
Assessment methods
The students prepare minutes from the observed lessons and their analyses. These minutes are materials for seminar discussions. Participation in lesson observations (30% can be replaced by individual listening - confirmation required), active participation in seminary discussions and solutions to the given problem are required to obtain the credit.
Language of instruction
