Still rings 1 – Swing

The gymnast begins swinging from the front hang on the rings. He performs an upward swing of the lower limbs and torso, while the angle at the shoulder joints decreases. At the highest point, he pushes the rings slightly backwards with arms going apart. This is followed by a back swing, in which the gymnast first slightly arches after passing through the vertical position. Then, he tightens the torso and pushes the rings forward and apart. Another front swing follows. The gymnast gradually increases the range of motion.

Swinging is the rotational movement of the body around a vertical axis (body center of gravity trajectory moves up and down in vertical axis). The gymnast uses the conversion of potential to kinetic energy and vice versa. At the same time, with each front and back swing, he performs mechanical work that gradually increases the total energy of the body. With that, the range of motion also increases. Golden rule of swinging: into vertical position always come first shoulders, than hips and at the end feet; from vertical position go feet the first, than hips and at the end shoulder.
