Overview of Mentimeter (for more go to https://www.mentimeter.com/) Mentimeter is an online application that can be used as a useful feedback tool for meeting hosts. This application is an analytical software that condenses answers from users into creative outputs. The host can send the Mentimeter link to the rest of the users in the call in hopes that they will respond to the question asked. The question can be anything that the host chooses. Whether that be an ask-me-anything question, feedback about the presentation, general questions, or suggestions. The participants will submit their answers to the website Mentimeter and then the website will condense the answers to a digestible format. The answers will be displayed in a creative way that is easy to read, but also engaging for the audience. Mentimeter can be used for online lectures, in person learning, hybrid classes, seminars, assessments or tests, school events, or any other event. The website allows for interactive learning. Since the website requests feedback from participants, it introduces a new way of cognitive thinking. It allows for a creative way to ask questions during a seminar, lecture, or conference. How to Create a Mentimeter Form There are dozens of options for the types of forms you can create. The most common for the purpose of teaching include word clouds, polls, and open-ended questions. On the homepage of your Mentimeter account you can find all your presentations and forms. There are also recommendations on what templates you can use for a business or conference type setting. To create a form, select which type of form you would like from the options provided. Once you make your selection, another subgroup of forms will open. From here, you can choose your specific form. An example would be: if you chose to create a poll, the sub groups that open are regarding what type of poll you desire to create. These subgroups are available for each category of forms. Once your form is selected, you may begin customizing and molding your form to match the topic you are teaching or presenting about. After this quick process, you may finish the form and share the joining code (which is located at the top of the screen) for the attendees to use to view the form on their devices. Uses of Mentimeter Mentimeter can be used for educational services. During a lecture, the professor can ask the class a question to promote discussion and internal reflection. The forms can be used to gather information about consensus’s, reflect on the topic by providing opinions, gathering information about the attendees, and initiating group work. The following are examples from the Zdeněk Janík’s COIL classes dedicated to students’ intercultural competence building.
