The MUNI JUNIOR STAR holder will receive 2 M CZK/year for 2 years. The total budget is max 4 M CZK for the project1 . Candidate profile An eligible applicant is a junior scientist who submitted an application to the GAČR JUNIOR STAR in 2023 for Masaryk University and was ranked among the top 20% of applicants but did not receive funding from the GA ČR. Submission of an application Documentation for the application must be uploaded to ISEP in PDF format including all attachments. A fully approved cover sheet is required for inclusion in the evaluation. GAMU - Research Support Programme MUNI JUNIOR STAR 3/5 Evaluation process The submitted application will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria: - Scoring of the project proposal by GA ČR The score is provided by the GA ČR on the basis of the agreed cooperation between the GA ČR and MU. The evaluation of the proposal is according to the rules of the GA ČR for the Junior Star competition. This evaluation includes 2 rounds. The first round includes that Discipline Committee members shall elaborate four independent expert reviews. After the evaluation, the Discipline Committee will propose the projects that will proceed to the 2nd round. The second round involves evaluation by 2 external evaluators. Based on the recommendations of the Discipline Committee, the Board of the GA CR will decide on the selection of projects to be awarded funding. Formal checks will be done by the RMU Research Department under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies. In the case of a higher number of applications, the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies has the right to decide which projects will be supported on the recommendation of the GAMU supervisors. The Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies informs the MU Management Board about the results of the competitions. The MU Rector decides on the basis of the recommendation of the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies on the awarding of grants in the MUNI JUNIOR STAR competition. Funding rules The MASH JUNIOR STAR holder has a full-time job at Masaryk University for the duration of the project and the place of work is primarily Brno. The financial support from GAMU must be used to cover the costs directly related to the preparation of the application for the prestigious individual grant. Within two years from the start of MUNI JUNIOR STAR, the investigator must resubmit the project proposal to the GAČR JUNIOR STAR call or submit an application for an ERC grant (or other prestigious individual grant – consultation with the RMU Research Department is recommended). When the investigator is aware of the positive results of the submitted prestigious grant, he/she shall immediately notify the RMU Research Department of this fact. The start of the implementation of the prestigious grant obtained stops the funding of MUNI JUNIOR STAR. Annual budget. 2 mil. CZK/year year Duration of funding: 2 years Start of implementation: 1 January 2025 GAMU - Research Support Programme MUNI JUNIOR STAR 4/5 Eligible costs • Costs eligible for institutional support for long-term conceptual development (see DKRVO rules, only in CZECH) The grant will be provided in non-investment funds. The amount that has not been spent in the given year may be transferred to the Special Purpose Fund (SPF) in the maximum amount of 5% of the funds awarded for the year concerned. It applies that if the funds in the SPF are not spent in the following year, the beneficiary is obliged to return the funds not used. The SPF cannot be created in the last year of the project investigation. The amount of financial support approved will be allocated to the specific economic centre by way of an adjustment to the institutional support schedule for the calendar year. The economic and administrative background of the projects will be identical to the economic and administrative background of the faculty where the scientist and his/her team are or will be based. The professional and administrative coordination of the project is the responsibility of the MUNI JUNIOR STAR grantee. Grant implementation and final report The final report, including the aprooved cover sheet, must be uploaded to ISEP within 60 days of the completion of the project. The final report form is available in the Document server in IS. Within 2 years from the start of the MUNI JUNIOR STAR project, the grantee will submit a project proposal to the GAČR JUNIOR STAR competition or submit an application for an ERC grant (or other prestigious individual grant).
