SYMBOLS

1. Czech national anthem Kde domov můj (Where is my home) was part of the comedy Fidlovačka aneb Žádný hněv a žádná rvačka (Fidlovačka, or No Anger and No Brawl), it was first performed in 1834.

CHALLENGES

2. Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884) went deaf when he was 50 but still composed afterwards, for example Vltava. Documentary in English - classical music - where you can hear and see Vltava :)

3. The Velvet Revolution (Czech: Sametová Revoluce) against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia that had lasted more than 40 years.

4. Markéta Irglová and Glen Hansard won an Oscar for the best film song Falling slowly in 2008.

5. Karel Gott (1939 – 2019) was a Czech singer, considered the most successful male singer in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. He was voted the country's best male singer in the annual Český slavík (Czech Nightingale) national music award 42 times, most recently in 2017.
