Approach to Migration in Europe & V4 countries

Lesson 2 (Detention, Forced returns, collective expulsions, Frontex)

Students will be introduced to EU return policy. 

The emphasis is given on the protection of rights of irregular migrants during immigration detention and forced returns.

The students will get acquainted with the basic principles of use of force and coercive measures during return operations. The session will focus on current challenges of preparing the flights to the respective countries of origin. The objective of this part of the course is for students to comprehend the diverse factors and challenges of EU return policy, as there are several variables to consider when planning the returns of irregular migrants.

Summarize: What is the return policy in your country (voluntary and forced returns?) How does it work in your country - Who is executiong the deportation orders? What are the main countries of return (i.e.destination countries) from your country? Do you have any institution that controls/monitors these returns? Can you imagine any obstacles that could endanger the actual return? Who in your country is responsible for management of detention centers? Who is responsible for the detention monitoring oversight?
