Transformation of the Czech Economy – Exam Essay Instructions Choose one out of the three topics below and write an essay (max 40 points). Your text/essay should include all the relevant facts you know about the topic in a comprehensive way. Evaluation is as follows: 1. Structure (max 15 point) a. Stick to the topic and structure your essay accordingly. b. Structure refers to both the arrangement of the whole essay, as well as its internal parts. c. We recommend the use of the formal structure (titles and subtitles) as well. d. It is recommended that you state the goal of your essay explicitly and briefly describe your essay structure in the opening paragraph. e. In the conclusion of your essay you should summarize the main findings that you argued for in the respective parts of the essay. f. Your own opinion is required as a part of the conclusion. 2. Facts (max 25 points) a. The amount of the relevant facts placed in a reasonable context. b. The complexity in which you handle the topic. 3. Economic logic and the correctness of the facts a. Points will be deducted for serious errors, whether they are in economic reasoning or factual one. We expect a length of approximately 1000 words (but please exhaust the topic, not the reader). TOPICS: 1. Compare the pros and cons of gradualism and shock therapy Important: If you are asked to make a comparison, we do not want you to describe one element and then the other, but to divide the facts into reasonable areas (by time, subject, etc.) and then systematically compare them directly against each other. It is this direct comparison that shows that you are aware of what is connected and what is essential. TECHNICAL INFO: In case of computer examining: save your essay directly in the directory that opens to you (after entering “save as”). Save it in the form: “number of selected essay_YOUR NAME” - for example "3_LIBOR_ZIDEK". Write your name on the essay. Save your work and leave the Windows at the end of the exam.
