Abstract of the lecture

The objective of the lecture is to introduce the process and trends of public administration reform in the CR after 1989. The core of the lecture deals with the reform of the territorial public administration (its municipal, district and regional level), particularly with changes of the institutional system.

The lecture is divided into following parts:

• Brief introduction to Czech and international public administration theory
• Detailed introduction into Territorial public administration and its reform in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic
• Detailed introduction into Central public administration reform
• Summary of the reform outputs and outcomes
• Brief introduction into the current trends of public administration modernization in the Czech Republic

Issues for discussions

• Positives and negatives of centralisation / decentralisation and its consequences in the Czech Republic
• Administrative system and current reform projects in home countries of students
