Tesco Stores ČR makes record profit in 2007 By ČTK / Published 25 September 2008 Prague, Sept 24 (CTK) - The retail chain Tesco Stores ČR, which runs 100 stores in the Czech Republic, returned to the black in the financial year 2007 ending this February, making a record-high profit of nearly Kc816m, while in 2006 it posted a loss of Kc156m, CTK learned from the company's annual statement Wednesday. The company shared the second and third places with Ahold in the chart of the biggest retailers on the Czech market. In the fiscal year 2007 Tesco sales rose by Kc6.3bn year-on-year to Kc40.957bn. The company last year opened 16 new stores and 4 new petrol stations and registered 126 million customers, up 13 million against the year before. Having entered the Czech market in 1996, Tesco Stores CR runs a network of 56 hypermarkets, 33 supermarkets, five express shops, six department stores and 16 filling stations. It employs 13,700 staff.
