Bachelor's seminar 2

The Role of Supervisor

Supervisor responsibilities are especially:

-            in writing, to clarify clearly and in understandable way general requirements for passing credit test from Thesis class within two weeks after the end of thesis topic enrolment and from Seminars not later than 2 weeks after the beginning of semester or to proceed according to recommended requirements established in subject’s syllabus,

-             to provide feedback on received text and supporting documents in agreed deadline, that is documents needed for passing credit test in accordance with the Study and Examination Regulation not later than 10 working days since submission (the form of a feedback is determined by the supervisor based on their experience – it can be in a form of comments in the text, remarks via email, in person consultation, presentation with a feedback, etc.), for other documents according to an agreement,

-             to add to a higher quality of submitted thesis by providing expert advice and comments, especially to provide specific and justified feedback regarding quality and expertise of the text and degree of fulfilment of evaluated criteria,

-            to provide feedback at least on

                    a) proposition of final description,

                    b) supporting documents required for credit test of Thesis class,

                    c) partial part of literature review (if demanded by a student),

                    d) supporting documents required for credits for of Seminar 1,

                    e) whole outcome part (if demanded by a student),

                    f) whole discussion and proposition part (if demanded by a student),

                    g) supporting documents required for credit test of Seminar 2.

In addition to above mentioned consultations, it is possible to arrange further consultations after an agreement between a student and a supervisor.

Supervisor responsibilities are NOT:

-            to come up with suitable aims, hypothesis, research questions or methods,

-            to search for specific sources above the recommended ones,

-            to look for a relevant firm or respondents for realization of thesis,

-            to rewrite, correct or mentor a text,

-            to initiate consultation, although supervisor can strongly recommend them based on an approach of a student or submitted supporting documents, alternatively to use these consultations to initiate a successful completion of subjects associated with thesis,

-            to provide consultation in case that the student did not meet the pre-agreed deadlines,

-            to provide a consultation on a text, which is obviously neglected and/or includes meaningless and/or unfinished sentences and/or includes extreme number of grammatical errors,

-            to repeatedly provide consultations regarding the same part of a text.

It is the fundamental right of a student to receive feedback on thesis and a fundamental supervisor’s responsibility is to provide this feedback, as the process of writing thesis is supposed to teach student new skills and therefore it is a specific type of an individual schooling.
