The lecture session will start with an introduction to the course plan. You will know about the assessment, course activities, assignments, and what you will learn and deliver during the semester. We will follow it by addressing key questions such as what a theory is, how it evolves, and why we study it.

Topics:

- Introduction to the course, assessment, and expectations.

- What is a theory, and why do we need them?

- Evolution and Categories of Management Theories

Mandatory Study Material

The following two short videos help you understand a theory and how it differs from facts or hypotheses.

Optional Study Material

The following first two papers explain the concept of theory and theorizing in the business and management discipline. The third paper explains this concept more specifically in the context of information systems. If you don't have time to read all three, try to read at least the third one.
