Midterm exam

Exam handout (the focus of exam):

1/ Migration: migration decisions, drivers of international migration, policies that attract migrants, policies to integrate migrants (citizenship, language), remittances, policies that motivate return migration to sending countries, the effects of migration on natives (well-being, health, work injuries), location decisions of new immigrants in the destination, occupational choices of migrants, understand basics of US immigration policy (ICE detainer, Sanctuary cities, Zero tolerance policy, DACA).

2/ Life satisfaction: well-being measures and determinants, job-satisfaction determinants, Easterlin Paradox.


November 6: Midterm exam online - ROPOT test) 

Instructions: The exam consists of 16 multiple-choice questions (each worth half a point) and three open questions. You can earn 17 points in total.You have a maximum of 70 minutes to complete the exam. The exam will be accessible in ROPOT from 12:00 to 14:00, so please begin before 12:40. Every multiple-choice question has only one correct answer. Open questions have a maximum word limit that you must not exceed. Make sure to answer all questions, every point is valuable.

In case you are not able to attend the midterm or final exam, inform the lecturer by email at least 48 hours in advance.

This question will appear in the exam and you can work on this question at home in advance. 

Open questions: You are asked to advise the government on how to use well-being indicators in shaping policy decisions. Use the 'Handbook of Well-Being' below, which summarizes on 1,000 pages the well-being research in many domains. Chapters are tiny though. 

Read any chapter from the handbook and explain how these research findings could be used to improve policymaking. Your proposal can focus on a different stage of the policy cycle (e.g. identifying areas that require government intervention, public budget prioritisation, policy formulation, assessing the results of the policy intervention, etc). You can be innovative but develop convincing arguments. (be specific, use at least 250 words, maximum limit is 300 words).
