Finance (Basics)

Course information

The course  Finance Basic introduces students to selected areas of finance. This is a basic course where only basic information will be provided. For deeper penetration into a specific problem area, it is necessary to use other specialized courses.

The course does not require any previous knowledge related to the field of finance, but for the selected chapters it is a prerequisite that the student knows basic high school mathematics. These are simple operations for expressing unknowns from equations, logarithms, powers, and sequences (arithmetic & geomteric series). This will be practiced and repeated within the course. Illustrative examples will be described and solved for selected chapters.

In order for the content of the lecture to be as useful as possible for the student, it is advisable for the student to actively participate (interaction, discussion), and therefore I would like to ask that the students bring a calculator or other device on which it will be possible to perform simple calculations (phones are not optimal , because they are prohibited for the test).

During the course, students will be assigned facultative homework that will be used to practice the discussed material or to expand their own knowledge..

To successfully pass the course, the student needs to collect a sufficient point score (60 % of test points, for more details see the contidions in syllabus). Students can earn points from two midterm tests, a final test, optional homeworks and a mandatory presentation. The first intermediate test will be written in the 6th week during the lecture. The second mid-term test will take place on December 13, 2024. The final test can be written before Christmas (December 20, 2024) and then exam dates will be available in the exam period.

The specific feature of the course is that it is very diverse in terms of the composition of the students. These are mostly students who don't know each other yet, but their friendship is just being formed and created here. It is an exceptional interaction of cultural and social entities. Presentations at seminars are used to connect this potential and finances.

Based on many years of experience, I dare to say that the goal of the course is not only the simple transfer of information from the subject matter, but the course also has another dimension, namely the creation of friendship (common chemistry).

I believe that the course will be enjoyable for most and will contribute to mutual enrichment not only in terms of gaining new knowledge, but also in terms of interpersonal skills.

The big change this year is the large number of enrolled students. This is the highest number in the entire history of the course. This entails certain difficulties and a challenge for the teacher as well. I would therefore like to ask the students for tolerance and mutual respect both during lectures and seminars. In any case, I am convinced that the course will be successful. And I look forward to interacting together.
