Presenting internationally

Lesson 11

Prepare a graph description presentation. Follow the instructions to prepare well for this mini-presentation format.

  • Look up a graph on a topic/aspect/phenomenon linked to your country.
  • Try to find a graph with informative value for the class. Choose a complex graph, not a single line graph.
  • Name the graph clearly (in English if it is not the language of the graph), check the description of axes – avoid the pitfalls mentioned in the video watched in the lesson (how to spot a misleading graph). Copy the source.

In the lesson you will be expected to:

  • explain the reason why you have chosen the graph,
  • say what information value it may have for the audience in the class,
  • make a comprehensive description of the graph, the axes, and of the development,
  • analyse possible causes for the development,
  • conclude.
  • time limit - 3-4 minutes
  • You will be expected to use a range of expressions relevant for graph description (including adjectives and adverbs specifying the speed of change. The time limit for the description should be 3-4 minutes, but not longer.
  • Copy your graph into the shared google document here.
