Introduction to Academic Writing

Feedback Notes

Remember that I'm giving you feedback and not proofreading/copy-editing services. This means that while I highlight different mistakes to you, I will NOT highlight all instances of a given mistake (i.e. odd transitions between sentences, missing articles, etc.).

See below the explanation of my in-text annotations:

1) Text Text Text -- with a wedge between words = the "insert text" annotation in pdf viewers/editors
            ^
-- no commentary = revise either punctuation (usually commas) or articles; sometimes difficult to see in the text, so make sure to open the comment bar (the comment should be described as the "add/insert" type)

2) Highlighted text
-- no commentary = a fairly straightforward mistake in grammar or vocabulary; can also denote repetition

3) Text between. Two sentences

e.g. "... and offer large liquidity. The setting for the Pokemon alarm clock are ..."
-- "Missing/weak/improve link" = the two sentences seem only loosely connected. Fix this by revising the sentences, using proper linking expressions, joining the sentences together, substantially revising, or changing the organization of the paragraph.
