There are many ways of modeling (not sculpting! Now you will see what the modeling is all about).

One of the most used is manipulating vertices, edges and polygons, moving them around, extruding. beveling, cutting, welding etc. A common approach is starting with just a simple box (therefore, this approach is sometimes called "Box Modeling").
