e027 Nontraditional Games
rules
Brief rules:
Currently, korfball is played in the hall, on the court with dimensions 40x20 metres. Court is divided into 2 halves called zones. In each of them, there are 3.5 tall posts with a basket at the top. Because the basket-ring is located in the 1/3 of the distance from the back line, it is possible to attack from all sides. It is played with a ball of the same size as the football ball, however, it is heavier.
The team consists of four women and four men. During the match, the two mixed teams of four take turns in offensive and defensive role. Each team plays only in one half or zone. The roles and zones change also when the score of the match changes by two points (2: 0, 1: 1, 0: 2). At halftime, only the zones change. Each basket-ring is worth one point, the team with greater number of shot baskets wins. Playtime is 2x30 minutes, in lower or younger categories, the half times are shorter.
During the game, following things are especially prohibited:
to run with a ball
avoiding the interplay
defend the opponents of the opposite sex
any physical contact
One of the rules, which make korfball different from other sports, is called defended shooting. If an attacker fires at the moment, when there is the defender between him or her and the basket at sufficient distance and actively blocks the shot, the attacking team loses the ball.
When any of the rules is violated, the referee may require either a free throw or penalty shooting - e. g. for a foul while shooting or defending of the opposite sex.
