   Please prepare a 5 page (doubled spaced, 11 point font) argument in proper essay form to the
   statement below (DO NOT WRITE MORE THAN 5 DOUBLED SPACED PAGES, I WILL NOT READ IT!!):

   

   

   

   In Myth and Archive, Gonzalez-Echevarria states that lurking in the background of the stories
   (and movies) we have read in class “the overall pattern of Latin American history, both as a
   general design made up of various key events and eras, and in the presence of specific
   characters and incidents that seem to refer to real people and happenings” (p. 19).  Take one
   of the characters from either One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, New
   World, or Erendira and prove how this might be true.

   

   

   Your essay must adhere to the following guidelines:

   

     o You MUST turn your essay in on time NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE,
     o You MUST use examples from the texts or movies discussed in class

     o You MUST follow the essay form discussed in class, i.e. proper argument, style, and
       grammar
     o Please include your name on EVERY page
     o DO NOT plagiarize (you can be expelled from the University for it)*

   

   *Plagiarism is defined as "the act of passing off as one's own the ideas or writings of
   another."

   Three simple conventions are presented for when you must provide a reference:

    1. If you use someone else's ideas, you should cite the source.
    2. If the way in which you are using the source is unclear, make it clear.
    3. If you received specific help from someone in writing the paper, acknowledge it.

     o Proper Form, Quality, and Presentation of Argument- 25%
     o Supporting Evidence, i.e., Discussion of Articles, Facts, Ideas- 75%
