In the video "The History of Our World in 18 Minutes", author David Christian explains how
individual atoms, molecules, etc. have formed the universe as we know it today. He takes his
listeners to a 13.7 million years long journey, and he simply describes what happened in the
universe in the past. He narrates how the long journey led to the creation of perfect conditions
for the origin of life (from [D1] the creation of stars, planets and their ideal distance) and
emphasizes its fragility. The author claims that the extinction of dinosaurs gave mammals, and
therefore us[D2] , a chance to settle the planet. Finally, the author emphasizes that it is the
people, our [D3] future generation, on whose shoulders lies the preservation of the fragility that
allows life on our planet[D4] .
