Maximal interpretation is as Reed puts it kind of painting a landscape, but not only observing an event which means reconstructing the parts of meaning where social actions are enclosed. He gives an example about the paintings and he says everything in the painting is same such as style and type of paint is similar to social actors and and their social processes. Every social actor has a role in the painting and each of them acts accordingly and different social actors also might have different views of social reality. It signifies subjectivity. Reed says that in different contexts or landscapes, different actions are normal. For example, one gesture can mean something different in another different landscape. The things that the researcher should do is to take these actions into consideration in their own landscapes, and not to intertwine different landscapes to similar fields. He/She should identify correct landscapes. In interpretative research, it is essential that maximal interpretation emerges from social actions of the actors rather than the theory. the theory gives us collection of meaningful context, landscape where the action happens. In interpretative epistemic mode. the main focus of the researcher is on the systems of signification and representation, the layers of social meanings that form human experiences, the researcher reconstructs the meaningful context of the actions. Theories are the tools for explaining and evaluating and judging the facts based on social actions. Meanings on the other hand, are important since they can reframe understanding and interpretation. Theory and meanings of facts come together and they form a part of maximal interpretation for deeper understanding. Maximal interpretations are not based on evidence. They have no empirical evidences but they are narrative explanations. Reed gives an example about interpretative epistemic mode by Geertz's Balinese Cockfight. The example was about the cock which is used in different ways in the Balinese tongue. I can provide an example about hand gestures. They varies from country to country. For example, the fingers are put all together, it means in Turkey, it is beautiful or everything is great. However in Italy, it means What do you want from me in an aggressive way. Also it means 'I'll be there in a minute' in Egypt. In order to understand the gesture in another landscape, we should apply maximal interpretation to achieve deeper understanding. Another example is, after 2017, 253000 people migrated to another country. so in this sentence, we mus ask a couple of questions such as what happened in or after 2017, which part of the society migrated, how can we link it with contemporary landscape. These questions are essential to achieve to Therefore, to create maximal interpretation in interpretative epistemic mode, we should make a coherent and meaningful landscape. Also, actions should make sense in social reality. To express the meaning, we have to reconstruct the reality and fact and meaning to succeed the maximal interpretation.
