A disappointing reality for both Israel and the Palestinians since signing the Oslo Accords is a habitual pattern of peace talks punctuated by violence either in the form of terrorism or large-scale, yet limited retaliation. This has produced a low-grade conflict of seemingly perpetual fighting. The United States in its mediator status post-Oslo has increasingly tried to bring peace while offering very little positive solutions to the Israeli security or its own strategy for the region or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
