During my lecture I mentioned grassroots lobbying. This is a rather specific strategy of interest representation / promotion which - despite the name - does not necessarily have to be considered a form of lobbying. Grassroots lobbying -involves the public contacting decision-makers about a specific issue typically by emails, letters, social media or other forms of messages. Unlike direct lobbying, the communication is mostly one-sided (from the lobbying public towards the decision-maker). Internet makes grassroots lobbying significantly easier and cheaper ("flattened information costs"). Amnesty International or the American NRA are examples of organizations that often ask their members to participate in grassroots lobbying (write their representative about a specific issue).
