Critically Analyzing the Field and the Research for Your Essay

Time:  3 ^rd June 14:00 CEST

We will think about remaining questions in the field, as well as how this field as a whole may be limited and why. Using examples, we will think about how individual studies in this field may be critically analyzed. These skills will be essential for the essay, which we will then discuss in detail. We will work in groups to discuss how we may approach the essay question.

Workshop content

• We will think about what the most significant outstanding questions are in the study of socioemotional processing of emotional expressions.
• We will discuss factors that may limit our ability to effectively address these questions, and that may limit the quality of existing research.
• With examples, we will learn how to effectively analyze individual pieces of research.
• We will learn how to write an effective, critical essay (like an argumentative literature review).
• We will use group discussion to think about how students may approach the essay topic.
