3. Transition to democracy and emerging political pluralisms

This lecture will deal with the democratic transition of Central and Eastern European countries. The question of the nature of communist regimes in the late 1980s will be discussed as well as different types of democratic transition. Attention is chiefly focused on Central European countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.
