   Please prepare a 6-10 page essay response to the statement below:

   

   French Social Theory can been seen as a reaction to prominent intellectual theories of both
   the 19^th and 20^th centuries, yet namely to Freud and Marx.  Using two or more authors we
   have discussed in class (except Sartre or de Beauvior) i.e. Ricouer, Althusser, Foucault,
   Derrida, or Kristeva define, discuss, and detail how s/he was reacting against Freud and/or
   Marx.  In other words, what does he/she share with these theorists, and in what ways is s/he
   carving out a distinctive intellectual position?  Use specific examples from the readings
   discussed in class.
