Studies of conflict as a fundamental research area in IR, definitions of conflict, differences between conflict, competition, and co-operation, trends of conflicts in the international politics, war as one of the primary tools, co-operation as increasingly prevalent way of interaction, motives of co-operation.
Essay topics/questions:
Do you think that the contemporary world is more or less prone to conflict than it was in the aftermath of WWII? Why can the actors in the international system clash, and what makes them behave in a particular way (i.e. either to accept conflict, or prefer co-operation)? How important is war as a political tool? And what is your understanding of contemporary wars?
