Here is some helpful vocabulary before you listen: 

  1. to “walk through the minefield– to orient oneself in a confusing/dangerous world
  2. collusion – working together (connotation can be illegally working together)
  3. to alleviate poverty – to improve the situation of the poor
  4. a daunting task – an intimidating, difficult challenge
  5. to leverage production – gain maximum advantage
  6. to sue someone – to take to court
  7. vetted standards – verified, assessed, evaluated, appraised, reviewed, considered, inspected, researched, scrutinized
  8. the public domainnot subject to copyright or legal restrictions
  9. an externality – a “subsidy”/gift from nature
  10.  a subsidy – a gift or grant from government for something deemed (thought to be) advantageous/beneficial for the public

Make a list of any other difficult vocabulary to share in the next lesson.

Prepare  several comprehension as well as discussion questions to be asked in class and try to have some answers ready too.
