Seminar Group 16 Miniconference – Day 1
We take a great pleasure in inviting you to the Seminar Group 16
Miniconference. You will be presented three topics focused on specific problems of
different areas of law. If you decide to participate, and we hope so, you can look
forward to the presentation dealing with specific aspects of illegal downloading,
thanks to which you will get some really interesting information about this serious
every-day problem. Also the presentation focused on the concept of whistleblowing
in Czech legal system is definitely worth hearing because it lays out a completely
new problem that the czech law must face. If you want to learn more about
legalization of prostitution in the Czech Republic you shouldn´t miss the
presentation looking into this really current topic.

Specific aspects of illegal downloading
Our presentation deals with problems of illegal downloading of films. First of all we
define regularizing of copyright concerning downloading. Secondly we compare situation in
the Czech Republic and in the United Kingdom. It includes differences between downloading
from warez and downloading from torrents. We will try to answer the question, why people
prefer downloading films illegally to paying for them. We also suggest possible ways to solve
these problems. Finally we show you an interesting case study concerning the film Kuky se
vrací which was the first film in the Czech Republic to receive a specific protection against
illegal downloading. With this presentation, we would like to explain to you some basic
information and interesting facts about illegal downloading, which is a problem we all meet
every day.
The concept of whistleblowing in czech legal system
In our presentation we will deal with the concept of whistleblowing and its anchorage
in czech legal system. Firstly we will define the term of whistleblowing and whistleblower,
then we will discuss the actual regulation and protection of whistleblowers in the Czech
republic. We can already reveal that the problem here is, that this legal instrument is not
explicitly established in czech legal system and that there are also some moral dilemas, but
the government plans to submit a bill in March. It will be the content of last part of our
presentation. In our presentation we would like to pointed out that this legal instrument
(despite the fact, that there is no black and white in some cases) have its future.
Legalization of prostitution: the state as pimp
The topic of our presentation focuses on possibility of controversial novelty in Czech
legislation. Several deputies in Parliament talk about legalizing prostitution. They feel very
uncomfortable about huge losses of income every year. The goal of the presentation is not
only to explain economical benefits but also to judge this bill from a moral standpoint. We
point out several advantages and disadvantages of legislation. This subject is apparently
problematic for both sides. We show the necessity of thorough discussion on choosing the
right legal form, which will be beneficial for the state and also for prostitutes. We look for
inspiration in other countries dealing with this issue. Future consequences of this legislation
for society are analyzed.
