The first Miniconference of seminar group 04 took place on Thursday 11th April at the Faculty of Law. Presentations about topics connected to law were introduced by three groups of students. The first presentation was called “Presidential Election – Arguments For and Against”. This topic was very topical, because January in 2013 was the first time in Czech history we could vote for president. Students described candidates and the system of presidential election, and then they compared both electoral systems and they compared arguments for and against presidential election. Their presentation was well prepared. The second presentation was called “Pardons and Amnesties”. This topic was very interesting due to amnesty of Václav Klaus in January in 2013. Students explained differences between pardons and amnesties, then they described both and they spoke about history of pardons and amnesties. The last one presentation was called “Death penalty”. This topic is very controversial and the presentation was very interesting. Students described different ways of executions, arguments for and against death penalty and some interesting cases. Students from the audience mean that Miniconference was interesting and it was meaningful way how to spend the English lesson and learn something new. Just one of them told me that he would rather learn normally. For speakers it was much worse: they told me that they were really nervous and that it is not easy to stay in front of a lot of students and speak loudly and calmly. Almost all students mean that it is important to know how to present some topics, how to act during the presentation and how to speak in front of the audience.
