EU domain

The .eu domain is special because it is one of the few top level domains which is govrned by positive law. In fact it is governed by following EU regulations (with links)

560/2009

 

Eligibility criteria for registering domain name are defined in article 4 of 733/2002/EC directive. These are:

  • undertaking having its registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the Community, or
  • organisation established within the Community without prejudice to the application of national law, or
  • natural person resident within the Community;

 

Sucess of EU domain

 It can be said that .eu domain became quite popular, so far more than three million domain names have been registered.
