European Human Rights Moot Court Competition I

Litigation before the ECtHR: drafting written submissions

Last but not least, after having read the case (or two cases, actually), having heard the oral pleadings, and pleading the case yourself, you should team up with another person taking this course and draft written submissions for a party of your choice. (Ideally, please communicate with the other students as well so that there is always at least one submission on behalf of the applicant and at least one on behalf of the government.) Working in pairs makes things both easier and more difficult, but teamwork is essential in moot court competitions.

When drafting your written submissions, you are addressing the Grand Chamber of the Court and you should respect the rules of the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition, available here. If you want to strive for excellence, do have a look at the best written submissions from previous years - they are also freely available on the HPMCC web.
